For the 1956 Academy Awards James Dean was the first person to be posthumously nominated for “Best Actor” for his performance in his first film, East of Eden. In 1957 he was nominated again for “Best Actor” for the film Giant, and remains the only actor to have two posthumous nominations.
He also received BAFTA nominations for “Best Foreign Actor” for his performances in East of Eden and Rebel Without a Cause.
At the 1956 Golden Globes Awards he won a “Special Achievement Award”, and at the 1957 Golden Globes won the Henrietta Award for “World Film Favorite”.
